TANGLE LAKES

Angler drowns after he falls in and is swept away by swift current

An Anchorage man died Wednesday after falling into rushing water at Tangle Lakes near Mile 20 of the Denali Highway, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers said Ricky Tocktoo, 44, was standing on a snowbank fishing when he lost his balance. A swift current carried him toward the center of the lake. His uncle, Francis Anawrok, 61, of Anchorage, was at a nearby campsite. He was unable to find help.

Tocktoo's body was recovered Wednesday. He was wearing chest waders and no flotation devices, troopers said.
